was
first and foremost an elegant player known for fair play and he was also the passionate inventor
behind our wardrobe's revolution.
In 1923 while on a trip to Boston with the French Davis Cup team, René Lacoste noticed a crocodile suitcase.
"If you win the match, I'll buy you that suitcase," joked his coach Alan Muhr before the meeting.
From this story comes his nickname "The Alligator", which was written down for the first time by a journalist at the Boston Evening Transcript and which would become the brand's symbol.
